Annie sloan chalk paint

I chose “French Linen”, a dark gray, as my paint color (you can find a local stockist of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint {here}). Using a natural bristle brush, I applied the first coat and quickly saw that it wasn’t going to come anywhere close to covering the old cream color. But no worries because the paint dries super quickly so not long after I was done painting the first coat, it was ready for a second coat. There’s a night and day difference after two coats  – you can see the difference here:Thanks for the insight. I’m just getting started and thought your tips were very useful. Rustoleum it is!Our paint department at our local hardware store tints the Rustoleum brand to most colours on the chip rack, so there are thousands of colours to choose from!

I’m so glad to see the comparison! I was at Home Depot a few days ago and had seen the Rust-Oleum Chalk Paint and wondered if it worked very well. I am painting my dining room hutch as I speak after already painting the table and chairs that go with it (I have had this set since the mid 80’s), and I’m almost done now. I used Annie Sloan’s Old White and it looks great, but my right hand feels like it’s about to fall off…lol. Well, back to work and next time I’m going to try the Rust-Oleum. Made my own chalk paint & it worked beautifully!! Not sure why anyone would use Annie Sloan at the ridiculous price that it is!!Not dumb at all! For the longest time, I thought Chalk Paint was akin to chalkboard paint – – but lo and behold, it turns out they are completely different. If you want to be able to write on a table with chalk, you’ll need chalkBOARD paint…though there are plenty of easy DIY recipes out there for how to make your own. Or you can buy chalkboard paint at most craft / hardware stores now. Just do a little Pinterest or Google search and I’m certain you’ll find what you need! Good luck!

I want to paint a varnished fireplace without sanding and the marble hearth – in your opinion is this likely to work?Thank you SO much for sharing your new step, Leigh! I’m definitely going to try that next time. Question: do you water down your paint by pouring it in a separate container and mixing it up? And how many parts water to paint would you guess? So glad you approve of the paint, too! As a fellow beginner, your testimony definitely helps add credibility to mine. 😉Hiya friends! And happppppppy Monday to you. Today’s post is one I’ve been thinking about doing for quite a while now and it’s a comparison between the Annie Sloan chalk paint vs the Rust-Oleum chalked paint. Now you guys know I’ve been a big fan of the Annie Sloan chalk paint for a looooong time. I’ve been using it for about six years now and I even wrote a post about my top ten chalk painting tips, which you can check out here if you’re interested. It’s actually what led me to fall in love with painting furniture in the first place. But recently I’ve been growing more curious about some of the alternatives that are popping up on the market, like the Rust-Oleum chalked paint. I picked it up at Home Depot about a month ago and I’ve used it on a few small things here and there. Well this weekend I was in the mood for a little painting fun so I decided to do a side-by-side comparison between these two products. I grabbed an old table that worked perfectly for this little experiment and I got to work. I was actually pretty surprised at some of my observations and I’m excited to share the results with you fine folks today!

Angely, I’ve not tried it yet myself, but in my online research, the consensus is that YES, you can use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint on laminate surfaces. You just need to be sure the surface is clean and the Purple Painted Lady recommends giving it a very light sanding with some 150 grit sandpaper to ensure the paint’s durability. Good luck!Right?! It’s just so darn expensive, even if you’re thinning it down with water. I’m sold on this Rust-Oleum version. As for your question about wood parquet floors, I’d recommend reading up on some blog posts where folk have gone through this process. And the Annie Sloan website has some great tips for how to make it durable. Check it out HERE. And good luck to you, Vittoria!

8. Buffing - Annie Sloan Chalk Paint dries matt with a chalky finish, but if you want a gloss effect you can buff it with a clean cloth. I like using clean white t-shirts. Be sure to wait 24 hours after your last coat of wax before buffing because your cloth will get stuck on the tacky wax. If you waxed a piece and left.. 1. Choose Your Project Piece.

Hi, thank you for this great tutorial! Can you paint over a piece that’s been painted with chalk paint and waxed? Will the wax keep it from setting?Best of luck securing some Chalk Paint for your projects! It would be a lovely excuse for me to travel to Italy to bring you some. 😉I’m not sure, Bev, about changing to a polycrylic finish after the wax has been applied… I wonder if sanding it would be the solution? But that would take off the finish as well. Hmmm … I’d have to google that on. And then I just rub the crayon or marker off of mine and I’m sure it takes the wax with it, so I’ll just reapply some wax to that spot after the crayon or marker spots are gone. Hope that helps! Laura I've been painting furniture with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint for a little over 6 months now and fell in love with it right from the beginning. And they were using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I hadn't even heard of this paint before, but the more I read about it, the more I wanted to try it out Oh yay, Meggie! I’m always delighted when I get to save someone else some time – – and yes, I’ve heard A.S.C.P. is grrrrreat on laminate surfaces. Oh, and you have so many fabulous colors to search from. And remember, you can mix the paint, so if you wanted to lighten or darken it a few shades, you could! Happy painting!

  2. Hi Sarah, This I’m my first visit to your blog. Thanks for sharing this experiment! I have limited my use of AS chalk paint for the reason you cited. While can stays open the paint gets dry so it needs a bit of water mixed in for each coat. I also sand a lot BTW coats. I have used rustoleum and like it. Mostly now though I just use latex satin paints, usually Valspar from Lowe’s, but others work too, and mix in purchased chalk powder. There are directions on how much to add. I find the chalk powder offers as smooth of a finish as rustoleum, zillions of colors and much less hassle than AS paint.

Hi Sarah! great post! Have you tried any chalk spray paint? I am curious about using the brush paint on kitchen cabinets in our camper, but using the spray on the cabinet doors outside so it looks more even. I’m not a fan of the distressed look tho. Also, do you think I would need a wax or top coat of some kind? Thanks!!It’s just the perfect hot drinks station! Looking forward to a stop at that station really soon! 🙂Thank you for this compilation, it’s been very helpful! I’m curious to how the paint job has held up. I’ve noticed that my Annie Sloan paint chips are a bit scratched, but they’re not waxed. Does the was help protect against this? This is my major obsticle to overcome. If you are going for a smooth finish with distressing, then use a regular paint brush and go with the grain. I do find that there will be some brush strokes at the end, so just know that you will be able to see them some when you are finished. Also, have you done any pieces with the General Finishes Gel Stain on perhaps the top then the rest painted with chalk paint? I am trying to figure out which part should be tackled first.

2. Gather your Supplies.

Thank you very much for this comparison! I have a dining room table that needs repainting in white after my 3 year old daughter took a rubber ink stamp to the legs and one chair. :/. I was thinking of using chalk paint and saw some you tube videos of Annie Sloan paint but I couldn’t find it anywhere except Amazon and you are right it is very expensive. At Walmart they have the Rust-Oleum but I was hesitant to get it as the can says to prepare your surface for painting and I thought with chalk paint you didn’t need to. But after I read this I’m definitely going to buy the Rust-Oleum. I also have a Goodwill large wood bamboo brown frame 36×48 I’m excited to try it on ($12!). Thank you very much and I can’t believe chalk paint has been around like 6 years when I’m just trying it now! I have all white furniture anyway but I have never chalk painted.I also started my chalk paint furniture adventures with Annie Sloan and the wax to finish things up. Then while at a friend’s house (the one who started me on chalk paint) I noticed her finished projects look so much nicer than mine. She had stopped using the wax and instead added a coat of water based (acrylic) varathane – with a satin finish to many of her pieces. It looked fabulous and held up so much better than wax. My “greatest generation” mom stopped using wax for a reason – it has to be re-applied every so often and doesn’t really protect as much as it should.

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Newbie Tips Driven by Deco

  1. I find the rustolium easy to apply too. Plus if you go to a home hardware store you can get more color selections. They have a dark and a light tint base that can be turned into several colors, you can see the choices on a paint sheet in the store and chose your color from there.
  2. I am about to tackle my first victim but I have a few questions. When you add a second coat of paint did you use the paint out of the can or did you dilute it? I have read that in other entries so I was curious.
  3. What round brushes can you recommend for painting? The AS brushes are too expensive. I purchased your recommendation for the wax brush! Thank you, Amy
  4. imal VOCs (0.02g/l VOC). For more information, please reference our Safety Data Sheets:
  5. How do I decide which color to use as a base. I want a driftwood or restoration hardware look. I painted base of dining table old white. For the top I have old white, French linen and Paris Gray. Which would be the base and which ones would be dry brushed?
  6. Annie Sloan recommends distressing after you apply the sealing wax, but I’ve tried it both ways and I much prefer to do it before the wax. It’s just easier to distress and then the chalk paint wax seals it allll in, and I don’t have unsealed spots where I distressed it. I will say that distressing the chalk paint without sealing wax does create a bit of a dusty mess, but it’s easy to clean up!

Thanks for ‘genuine’ comparison. I too prefer Rustoleum. But my thoughts on wax: a lot of work! And it must be reapplied down the road. I use water base matte polyurethane. Easy peasy!-> My doubt is, when is it best to use wax and when is it best to use polycrylic sealer on furniture. -> Is it okay if I can apply polycrylic sealer (of any finish) in case I dont have wax.

Thank you for the wonderful step by step info. I am off to buy my first tin of Annie Sloan paint. i would just paint the inside of the drawers as well. White perhaps? Have a look at the blog LIVELOVEDIY. I also paint everything I can lay my hands on but I am going back to al my pieces to paint the inside of the drawers soon. Happy paintingYes! We have plans to do some distressed pieces next…and I can’t WAIT to get my hands on more paint to make it happen. So excited for you and your first venture in the wonderful world of A.S.C.P! Yes, definitely keep me posted on how it goes! And have fun with it.Από τους εκπροσώπους της Annie Sloan Greece Tις κληρονομήσαμε από...I don’t think rustoleum has a dark wax option like as right? I love that look. Can you use as clear and dark wax on rustoleum chalk paint?

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint vs Rust-Oleum Chalked Paint

  1. I have completed about 5-projects using the Behr Chalk paint from Home Depot. It is priced similarly to the Rustoleum Chalk paint and you have a large color selection to choose from as the can mix almost any color you could imagine. It goes on very easy and their wax is also very easy to use. Most importantly there is no odor from the Behr paint. I used the Martha Stuart paint and the odor was terrible! Hope this helps.
  2. You can take any paint colour to Home Hardware, that sells Rustoleum, & they can make it in Chalk paint, Or pick a colour off their paint palate, we make hundreds of colours. No other company that sells chalk paint has that ability.
  3. I have to disagree. I’ve done several projects with rust oleum because it was cheaper, however I felt I used twice the amount of paint as Annie Sloan. Although I hate to spend more money, I just feel I got more projects out of Annie Sloan.
  4. Hi, I just ran into your blog, and need an expert opinion. I ordered a lamp currently featured on Pottery Barn (yes super expensive – but we had been looking forever after my husband broke one of the living room lamps – the other finally broke…so yeah…). I ordered the Anders lamp in white: https://www.potterybarn.com/products/anders-table-lamp/?catalogId=84&sku=9812910&cm_ven=PLA&cm_cat=Google&cm_pla=Lighting%20%3E%20Table%20%26%20Desk%20Lamps&cm_ite=9812910&gclid=CjwKCAjwqqrmBRAAEiwAdpDXtJ3ONZYr1f1Jz2NukzzHbS3fTivsLFAScWV6YnkUOEeTz-6_wcwGtBoCvvUQAvD_BwE

  7. Hi Deanna! I think you’d be fine to use that spray paint on light fixtures. I don’t think there’s a concern with it being next to a light bulb–it’s not like the high heat that comes off a fireplace or grill. But I haven’t used it yet for something like that, so I can’t say 100%!

I’d definitely go with paint for the rocking chair–I think it’s more durable and will give you a great finish. And I think you will love the White Linen for your nursery project. It’s a gorgeous shade and I really prefer it over a more yellowed-white. Good luck Erica! Chalk Paint® Decorative Paints by Annie Sloan are the BEST in the world! And like Annie Sloan said herselfOne of the great aspects about my paint is I am pleased to offer Annie Sloan's amazing, easy-to-work-with Chalk Paint™ that is taking the country by storm. As stated on her website, Annie.. If I may? One of the questions I get asked the most is regarding how I painted our kitchen cabinets and what do I think of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I have waited until now to share my opinion because I thought we needed to really live with the cabinets to see how they wore with daily use and to give me time to give.. I see some of you nodding your heads on the other side of the screen.  I know for me, I was stuck at STAGE #2 for a lonnnnnnng time.  But once I actually dove in to my first painting project with Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan, I quickly catapulted from STAGE #4 with disbelief at its ease of use to STAGE #5 with elation over how my project turned out.

  1. ded me of normal latex paint
  2. g. Gotta get my calm on, wherever I can!
  3. d is that you can paint over the cured AS wax finish in a few weeks after applying it if you want to change the color.
  4. You’ve pushed me over the edge; past stage two and now sailing happily through the rest! This is the first tut that has broken it down and made it not scary. And I’m not scared of many DIY’s to begin with! Many thanks!!
  5. Top tip: Annie Sloan recommends that you water down the paint a little to allow for smoother coverage! Once I’d don’t this it was much easier to work with! Those selling the paint should give this advice to customers as it’s pretty essential.
  6. Working AS paint too much will result in the flashing or ‘caking’ you experienced. Most paints will do this but latex paint like the Rustoleum is less susceptible to flashing from the latex base. If a latex paint finish is good enough for you, the rustoleum is a decent paint with less coverage than Annie’s. Latex is a liquid synthetic polymer that doesn’t adhere as deeply into the surface.
  7. I’m so happy to hear you found the post helpful! That was my high hope: to demystify the process and empower others to take on those projects they only dreamed of in the past. So impressed by you taking on your kitchen island! I have no doubt it’s a thing of beauty.

3. Remove Hardware & Putty Holes (if needed).

First, I watched several YouTube videos to get the sense of the waxing technique (like this one by The Purple Painted Lady and this one by Locksley Lane).  Seriously, it’s so easy.  I don’t know what I was afraid of.Hi Cindy! From what I’ve read, “tacky” means there is too much wax. It will dry & become less tacky in time (a day or two), then you can buff. From all the reading I’ve done on the product, you can buff anytime after its dry. Some even say buffing often is necessary.

do you think l could use the rustoleum chalk paint on a stained white rayon/velvet couch& what sealer would l useDid you try cutting your paint with a little bit of water? You can dip your brush in the water first, then the paint, and that can smooth the finish. I’ve also used foam brushes with latex paint and that can really minimize visible brushstrokes. Though I was able to have very minimal brushstrokes on my Hot Drinks Station table with the Purdy brush. Which brush did you use, Kathy?

Hi thank you for this post! I wanted to to use Rust-Oleum chalk paint on a velvet headboard but so nervous in case I mess it up😩 what do you think n thank youhi sarah, i started with rustoleum but their colors are very “hardware store $1. a gallon bargain paint”. i decided the amazing colors of AS were worth more than twice the money. BUT! i am on my second quart of rustoleum linen white for use as a base coat or a primer of sorts. i know it is not supposed to be necessary but it ensures best coverage and a smooth surface for the final color, especially on a dark piece that may have old shellac. here’s a revolutionary thought…can the rustoleum linen white be tinted any color you want?! probably!!!It looks great!???????? Now, I’m nervous to tackle the job of KITCHEN CABINETS! What do you think? Can this paint and procedures be used to chipper up a CHERRY WOOD KITCHEN, which is waaay to dark and one that I never really liked! I just purchased a weathered brown/grey floor! The cabinets don’t have to be perfect ..I kinda like a bit of shabby chic/weathered looking furniture (that blends with life and kids)!I have read that soaking Annie Sloan’s brushes in water overnight before using helps with the brush hairs being left in the paint or wax. After soaking them and they are dry, you are suppose to run your fingers over them and pull out the hairs that have loosened.

Wow – the table looks fantastic. I just bought this colour for my first project. I may have to go on the hunt for white knobs too! I have been feeling a bit anxious but your post is reassuring. I think it would be a pain to wax and paint, though, because of all the detail. good luck! LauraMost people that use Rustoleum end up coming to me and going with AS. Luckily, most people who try Rustoleum complain about it, and end up coming back to me for AS. I would massage the wax into a small section (like a quarter of the tabletop or one surface of one table leg), using a combination of circular and side-sweeping motions, always ending with a sweep in the direction of the grain.  You’ll see the section you are working on slightly darken.  (The clear wax doesn’t darken your paint, but enhances the color a bit.)  Also, don’t worry if some of the bristles on your brush fall out here.  You’ll wipe them away in the next step. And yes, laminate surfaces is GREAT for Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. The Purple Painted Lady recommends making sure that laminate surfaces are clean and that you give them a very light sanding beforehand. Thanks so much for the tip to add a little water to the chalk paint. It went on so much smoother and was easier to work with. I painted a project without adding the water and it was so challenging to work with due to it being so thick. I am glad I happened to find your website. It looks fantastic, Lauren! I love the fabulous colour. I’m a huge fan of both chalk paint and Purdy brushes. I didn’t know to keep my brush in the fridge, though! I always just wrap them in a plastic shopping bag and squeeze out the air while waiting between coats. Great tip – I’ll try that next time.

So you have totally convinced me to try ASCP! Seriously. Quick question.. my dresser I am going to make over is in pretty rough shape. And did you put wood fill in the wholes of previous hardware? You can use Mineral Spirits to remove the wax even after it has dried. I just did this and then repainted a different color.

Chalk Paint ® by Annie Sloan - Restoring Piec

Great info -thanks, About 4 years ago I painted a thrift store dresser with Annie Sloan . I chose it based on the “no prep” method……. what a job! I also found it to be very thick and ended up having to sand down a few spots and repaint because of the gloppiness (is that a word) and then came the wax – oh no . 4 years later and it still feels sticky. I obviously did that part wrong and if I ever use wax again on a piece I will experiment on a very small piece first (I also have another wax horror story that involves a kitchen island that ended up in the garage). Chalk Paint® kriidivärv on mööbli värvimiseks tõesti parim värv! Pinda ei pea enne lihvima ega kruntima Thank you so much for this post! It is super helpful. I have used Valspar chalk paint several times, love the wide availability of colors they can mix it to at Lowes. But it is thick and I felt somewhat hard to use. I was considering using Annie Sloan for my next project, but it sounds very similar to the Valspar. I was a doubter with the Rustoleum brand due to the low price, what a pleasant surprise though, I will definitely give it a try now!Annie Sloan is better than Rustoleum – like all “premium” chalk paints it goes on thicker and spreads further. I fear Rustoleum turns people off of using any chalk paint product. I like the pictures in this post – they do a good job of showing the differences in color, texture and coverage.I’m curious how the wax finish has held up? I want to do my kitchen table but it will be HEAVY use so I can’t decide if wax is strong enough Kleurenkaart Chalk Paint Annie Sloan

Annie Sloan az elmúlt 30 évben a díszítő festés forradalmának vezetőjeként a dekorációs festészet és a színek széles körben elismert és nagy tiszteletnek örvendő szakértőjévé vált. Ha antikolt, koptatott jellegű stílust szeretnénk elérni, akkor Annie Sloan Chalk Paint™ festéket használunk Why thank you, Tori-dorable! (Has anyone ever called you that before? If not, I claim it as MY nickname for you. Ha ha.) Chalk paint distresses easily with a little sand paper. It comes off in a fine powder, which also makes it very forgiving. Chalk paint is {mostly} made of latex paint, calcium carbonate and water. I've tried the chalk paint from walmart and it was pretty sorry. But the Annie Sloan chalk paint works wonders

Thank you for this clear, concise, encouraging and helpful post! I just painted a record table (as in a piece of furniture meant to hold a record player) from the 1940s that my parents painted mint green for my nursery in the 1970s. I’ve had the piece for over 20 years and always meant to paint it but didn’t know how. I think I was just waiting for AS chalk paint to come along! I completed the project at a relaxed pace over 4 days and really enjoyed it. Your post was a huge help. I painted it Aubusson Blue. It’s a gorgeous shade of blue. Again, thank you for your help and, most of all, your encouragement!I will try this. My son actually works at an Ace. As for our local AS stockist….they went out of business and the next closest is 45 minutes away. I’ve used the AS on just about everything in my house and am big on mixing colors as well as color washing. However the convenience and $ savings is worth my while to try the rustoleum!Aw, thanks, Angela! Ya know, the coffee mugs, creamer, and sugar set were all from Crate & Barrel 5 years ago when we made our wedding registry. Hope they still have them! They really are fantastic. Or if not, you might be able to find some used ones for sale online somewhere? Or DIY your own!!!

  1. That’s truly the best part. I hope you feel liberated to take it on with gusto. Happy painting! (And you are so welcome, Jim.)
  2. You’re going to need to seal the paint regardless, and I would say that my table has a “matte” finish after using the clear wax…so if you want something more satin or semi-gloss, you might try a Polycrylic sealant instead of the wax. Those are okay to use atop chalk paint! You can read an interesting post on poly vs. wax HERE. And I have some tips on the DOs and DON’Ts of using polycrylic HERE if you’re new to it. Best of luck!
  3. ate surfaces without a lot of work. You’ve solved my problem! Now to choose the colour… 😉 Your table looks lovely, Lauren. Love that colour.
  4. i didn’t read all the posts, so it could be in the comments. I wondered how well it would cover kitchen cabinets? I need to redo them. Does the wax yellow over time?
  5. I haven’t painted kitchen cabinets yet, so I can’t really say for sure Tanya. But I’m curious, what did you cover your cabinets with when you used latex paint? Sounds like it didn’t hold up? My first thought would be to put two coats of clear polycrylic over top of the cabinets after you’re done painting. In my experience that stuff seals like the dickens and I would think it would protect the cabinets. I used it on our dining table (over chalk paint) and it’s done an excellent job.
  6. I bought a different brand than Anne Sloan Chalk paint. This is the first time I’d ever painted anything with Chalk paint, but I paint everything all the time so I’m not new to painting. However, I didn’t find the coverage very good. I had to put 3 coats on one dining chair and it still is sparse in areas. I think the same effects could be achieved with a flat paint as opposed to Chalk paint. I’m just not sure if it was the paint or if I was putting it on too thin, etc.

Huzzah! I’m overjoyed to hear you’ve caught the bug as well. It’s really amazing stuff! I’m so glad you found the tips helpful and plan to do more ASCP projects. Go girl, go!I’ve only used the restoleum once. It stunk. I’ll stink with the non-toxic chalk paints. My favorite is DIY. But milk paint is my favorite paint to work with.Would you use this paint to finish the top of an old oak desk? The top has been sanded before and is in need of refinishing. The rest of just original varnish. The wax seals and protects your piece…and although it comes out of the can super soft, like Crisco, it will harden when it dries.Just wanted to tell you that I use the Rust-oleum, and I love it, but at our local Menard’s store I just show them the color of Annie Sloane paint I want and they make it for me.

For this project, I decided to use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I have attended one of Annie Sloan's workshops on her American tour, but I have never painted a If you want to know more about Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, I highly suggest you reading about it HERE, from Shaunna at Imperfectly Perfect That’s a great idea Cynthia and I think that would totally work! Give it a shot and let me know how it goes.

This was so helpful, especially with white paint. I am beginning two projects in the morning. Thank you! Ceiling Fans. Home Decorating. Annie Sloan Chalk Paint - I hate it!! I'm painting a few pieces of furniture for my daughters room and after much thought I decided to use chalk paint. After a 30 minute conversation with the lady at the store, I was assured that this paint requires NO sanding, NO primer.. I have just tried the Rustoleum product and so far so good. I was pretty sold on AS and have used it for some time. However, today I went to buy some for a project and the “Stockist” who is at least a 20 minute drive was not open although her advertised hours said they would be. I went to an ACE hardware store where they will mix any Benjamin Moore color with the Rustoleum base. I actually got the exact color I wanted with out having to mix AS colors to achieve the desired result.[…] I scoured Craigslist and found our kitchen table, then re-stained the top and painted the legs. I love […]

I used “Valspar Chalky Finish” on an old cabinet then held a mold in place with painter’s tape. The paint came off with the tape! Do not like the Valspar Chalk Finish! Question: Do you think that I need to sand down again before starting over with another chalk paint?Annie Sloan Chalk Paint can be painted right onto bare wood, varnished wood, laminate surfaces – – all of the above – – without any prep. And yes, you can paint a design overtop of it, too! I recommend using Chalk Paint for that, too, if possible. However, if you use acrylic, be aware that the acrylic paint will likely resist the wax (not absorb it like the Chalk Paint), so you could either move forward and just know that the acrylic paint won’t be fully sealed. Or you could skip the wax altogether and seal it with something like Polycrylic, which works for all paint types. I will say that waxing is easier than applying Polycrylic in my opinion. So if there’s any way you can get your hands on the colors of Chalk Paint you want for the decorative painting, that’d be my rec. Best of luck!I love the tutorial! I bought my first can of chalk paint years ago, and had no idea you had to wax it! It wasn’t until I had my dresser taken apart in the garage and halfway painted that I learned you had the wax the whole thing! It turned out super easy (like you said) but I was freaking out! Good to know I wasn’t alone in being intimidated by the waxing/buffing stage! Have you tried using Annie Sloan chalk paint yet? It's without a doubt one of our favorite paints, and we use it on everything from small projects like frames to large furniture makeovers. If you're new to chalk paint, these tips will help you get started. Some links in this post are affiliate links If using a brush to apply your wax, you’ll want to clean it out using odorless mineral spirits.  I just filled a cup with a half cup or so of mineral spirits and let my wax brush sit it in for a few hours.  Then, I rinsed it out with warm soapy water, and my brush is soft again!

Yes! The Purple Painted Lady is my go to gal for questions like this one and she has a whole post dedicated to the process that you can check out here. Best of luck!Hi, thank you for your great blog on the Annie Sloan/Rust-O-Leum chalk paint comparison. Very helpful. As an AS fan for years, I’ve used ROL and was also very pleased. Our ACE Hardware can make any color from the ROL white chalk paint from their many regular paint color choices which means ROL has MORE color choice than AS! See if your local or big box hardware store will do the same for you. Love the little table, btw. Great conversation piece to show your friends and family who may be interested in this great hobby of chalk paint.🌷Thanks for doing this comparison! I’ve been using Annie Sloan also and started using the Rust-oleum or B.B.Frosch because the price point is much better. I just bought the linen white and was hoping it was more like Pure White and it looks like it is! Plus it mixed well with my Annie Sloan so that’s a nice bonus!
