All iMessages are encrypted and can be tracked using delivery receipts.[18] If the recipient enables Read Receipts, the sender will be able to see when the recipient has read the message. iMessage also allows users to set up chats with more than two people—a "group chat". I spent 3 weeks trying to resolve this exact problem. I ignored Apple support prompting me to upgrade your iOS. Reset all settings and Restore etc. I could not bare to go down that path knowing it’s something stupid. Especially since my iMessage had worked previously with my phone number (without SMS credit) for over 2 years.

  2. This is not obvious at all, but if you are trying to activate FaceTime and iMessage on an iPhone, Apple might try to send you an SMS as part of the activation process. This SMS is typically invisible to the user as all happens in the background, but this is basically the equivalent of Apple sending an SMS to the phone to verify its status. If you can’t receive SMS messages, which I admit would be quite unusual, then Apple might not be able to authorize the device to activate FaceTime and iMessage. In this case, double check with your carrier that you can indeed receive text messages.

Of course the other benefit is that even if you do have an SMS plan, sending iMessages can circumvent the SMS protocol, allowing you to send texts for free to other iPhone users.Open the Messages app > Swipe right to left on the message thread you want mute notifications from > Tap 'Hide Alerts' > A Do Not Disturb symbol (half moon) will appear on the left of the message threads you have stopped notifications from. This is quite obvious but if you don’t have any cellular or Wi-Fi connection, iMessage and FaceTime won’t be able to check in with Apple’s servers to start the activation process. 3. I haven’t seen this solution anywhere on the internet, but this is the only thing that worked for me when my greyed out phone number wouldn’t activate iMessage. iMessage allows users to send texts, documents, photos, videos, contact information, and group messages over the Internet to other iOS or macOS users. iMessage is an alternative to the SMS and MMS messaging for most users with devices running iOS 5 or later. The "Send as SMS" setting under Messages will cause the message to be sent via SMS if the sender does not have an active Internet connection. If the receiver has no Internet connection, the message should be stored on a server until a connection is restored. Open the Messages app > Open any message thread > Tap on the App Store icon above the keyboard > Tap on the search icon to the right of the App Store text > Words with Friends > Download Words for iMessage Game. Problem fixed! What you need to do is go to Settings > FaceTime > Apple ID: *** > View Account. After you have sign in, FaceTime should be working!

Open the Messages app > Type what you're looking for in the search bar at the top of the message threads > Any messages relating to what you search will appear below the bar.Uhmmm… I could’nt figure out why i cannot find iMessage on my iPod settings. I checked it a dozen times. ”NOTHING” Anyone help me out here?If I had two devices (iphone and itouch) currently using their own individual apple ids – but I wanted to get my itouch messages also sent to my iphone, but NOT my phone messages sent to the itouch. Will the itouch then ben able to get my iphone messages as well?? Thanks for your help.

I recently encountered a slight variation of this issue where not only the “Waiting for activation” message was showing up, but the phone number I was trying to activate with iMessage was greyed out with a spinning wheel next to it. My case was somewhat unusual because I was trying to activate a secondary phone number on the same iPhone. This is not impossible, but this is definitely not a scenario that most people will encounter.Go into messages and where it says revive at click on it and sign out of ur apple Id and it will send ur iMessage through ur phone number and not ur email address.Obsessed with tech since the early arrival of A/UX on Apple, Sudz (SK) is responsible for the editorial direction of AppleToolBox. Fix: Waiting for activation

As we discussed above, Apple does a bit of SMS trickery to activate FaceTime and iMessage on your device, and if you’re having either Wi-Fi or cellular network issue, well, Apple won’t be able to activate your device for these two services. To rule out issues related to your connectivity, go to Settings > General > Reset Network Settings. Once the reset performed, you will have to enter your Wi-Fi password again, but at least you will be operating on a clean slate, as far as networking goes.I can’t figure out why I am not able to see the iMessage ICONS like the smiley faces and sad faces when I am sending an iMessage with my iPhone 4? It received points for having communications encrypted in transit, having communications encrypted with keys the provider doesn't have access to (end-to-end encryption), having past communications secure if the keys are stolen (forward secrecy), having their security designs well-documented, and having a recent independent security audit. It missed points because users can not verify contacts' identities and because the source code is not open to independent review.[24] In September 2015, Matthew Green noted that, because iMessage does not display key fingerprints for out-of-band verification, users are unable to verify that a man-in-the-middle attack has not occurred. The post also noted that iMessage uses RSA key exchange. This means that, as opposed to what EFF's scorecard claims, iMessage does not feature forward secrecy.[25] Messaging will not let you browse for or type an e-mail alias, so find the alias in Contacts or wherever and use the press-hold Copy methods to get the address to Paste into the recipient list of Messages.
